How Much Life is Left in Your Battery?

Since your car's battery provides power for the vehicle's electrical system, ensuring your battery has a good charge is vital. The only way to find out how much life your battery has left is to test it. Fortunately, the testing process is simple.

A voltmeter is a tool with two lines that attach to your battery's positive and negative posts in much the same way as a jumper cable. Make sure to turn your car's engine and any lights off before you test. Next, clamp each lead line to its respective post. The voltmeter then determines your battery's level of charge and provides a readout. You should change your battery if it has a 50% charge or less. Always remove the voltmeter's negative clamp first after testing. Finally, clean off the posts.
